About the WHO Representative to Bangladesh

Dr Ahmed Jamsheed Mohamed assumed his role as WHO Representative to Bangladesh on 1 November 2024. Dr Jamsheed is a medical doctor and public health professional with over 30 years of health-sector experience.

Over his 12-year career with WHO, Dr Jamsheed has served as Deputy WHO Representative to Bangladesh, WHO Representative to DPR Korea, and is currently WHO Representative to Bangladesh. Across these roles, he has provided strategic leadership, strengthening WHO's support to Member States and advancing the Organization's priorities.

Before joining WHO, Dr Jamsheed held senior positions in public health for more than 18 years, including serving as Minister of Health and Director General of the Centre for Community Health and Disease Control in his home country, Maldives. In these roles, he helped shape both the technical and policy dimensions of the national health system. As Minister of Health, he led major health system reforms, strengthening the country's focus on prevention, primary health care and people-centred services, while advancing International Health Regulations (2005) core capacities through multisectoral collaboration.

Born on the island of Fuvahmulah in Maldives, Dr Jamsheed holds a medical degree from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Nagpur, India, and a Master of Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom.
