Cork, Ireland

The Summit of Mayors on Climate and Health will take place on 5–6 October 2026 in Cork, Ireland, as an official event of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Hosted by Cork City Council in collaboration with the WHO European Healthy Cities Network, the Summit will bring together mayors, political leaders and technical experts from across the WHO European Region and beyond. The Summit will highlight the vital role of cities in addressing climate change while creating healthier, more resilient and more equitable communities.

Climate change is one of the defining health challenges of our time. Rising temperatures, more frequent extreme weather events and worsening air quality are already affecting the health and well-being of communities across Europe, with the greatest impacts experienced by vulnerable populations. The Summit will provide a platform for city leaders to exchange knowledge, share practical solutions and strengthen collaboration on climate and health. Discussions will contribute to the development of the Cork Call to Action on Climate and Health, a city-led political call to action, informed by the Pan-European Commission on Climate and Health and aligned with European Union, WHO and local priorities to support coordinated action.

The Summit and the Call to Action will be centred around 5 technical pillars: nature-positive cities; nourishing communities for a healthy food future; moving cities for healthier lives; healthy homes for stronger communities; and prepared and protected communities for generations to come.

This is an invite-only event, bringing together political leaders and key stakeholders committed to advancing climate and health action through local leadership and collaboration.
